The Hypnosis Center, LLC was established in the fall of 2005, in Los Alamos, New Mexico by Joy Johnson, our Clinical Director. Joy has a degree in Behavioral Science, a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Brigham Young University, and a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Utah State University.

Joy has expertise in working with people who have significant disabling conditions. She is certified in the United States and Canada as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and is licensed as a Rehabilitation Counselor in the state of New Mexico. Joy is an experienced Vocational Evaluator, writing recommendations for vocational and rehabilitation options for people who have significant disabilities. She is certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist by the American Council of Hypnotists Examiners and The National Guild of Hypnotists.

During 2005-2007 Joy was a member of a select group of Clinical Hypnotherapists that studied with, Gil Boyne, who is a world renowned Hypnotherapist and Author, as well as a pioneer in the field of hypnotherapy.

Joy is a graduate of the prestigious Hypnotherapy Academy of America, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which holds the distinction of one of the world's finest schools for the study of hypnotism. She has training in advanced techniques to provide a positive and successful experience for clients who need to find solutions to their issues.

Joy is also a Behavior Analyst specializing in working with people who have dual-diagnoses, MR/DD and mentally ill. Many of Joy's clients are deaf and/or blind, are Autistic, and many have mood or personality disorders. This is a very challenging & rewarding population of people with whom to work, as they represent some of the most disabled population among many, in need of extensive supports.

Disabling conditions tend to respond to the medicine of the mind, which is a natural and innate part of every human being. We live in a culture that teaches us that when we have a medical issue or emotional condition, that we must go consult with other people who hold all the answers.

Thankfully, we enjoy the most advanced medical techniques & treatments to assist us in this day and age, when we need it. However, few people teach us about the power we hold within our own inner creative mind, which is just as real and is a very potent type of medicine in its own right! 

You have inside your brain a very sophisticated pharmacy of chemicals which responds to all your thoughts and the words you hear each and every day. Many people are finding relief by accessing the healing power from within their own mind. This has been such a fascinating and exciting discovery that Joy has a particular interest in working with people with brain injuries, as well as addiction & anxiety issues, and other conditions using hypnosis.

Joy is from Northern Virginia, where she grew up near Fort Belvior. She began her career in the early 1980's nearby Fort Meade, MD and more recently at Los Alamos, NM. She has 3 grown children and two grandchildren. She now resides in Eagle Mountain, Utah where she sees clients privately, by appointment only.
