Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Hypnosis and how does it work?
A: Hypnosis is
a natural yet altered state, where the mind is focused on selected thinking and positive suggestions are more readily accepted by the subconscious mind.
People are in hypnosis for various times periods during the day. Most people have experienced driving from one place to another without total memory of the trip. When we do this we say we were in "deep thought" but it is actually hypnosis.
If you think of hypnosis like a radio where you can turn the dial and "zero in" on a certain frequency then it is easy to understand how the mind go into and out of hypnosis.
Their is no "going under" as in the movies, rather a person goes into and out of hypnosis, just like you turn the radio channel into and out of certain frequencies. The conscious mind is relaxed but doesn't go away, just like the other frequencies on the radio dials do not go away, you can go back and forth whenever you want.
You can utilize this state of mind for changing limiting
ideas/beliefs that may be holding you back or keeping you stuck. You can
replace limiting ideas with more positive & effective ones
that will serve you better. You might think of it as upgrading your mental software for more effective results in your life.
Whenever new suggestions are offered to the subconscious
mind in hypnosis, the client is always involved in developing those
suggestions so that they facilitate, in the right wording, the client's needs & goals.
The insights gained through this communication with the subconscious is
what benefits you to restructure your life in a more constructive
way.Hypnosis is not just physical relaxation, it is relaxation of the
nervous system as well. People who experience hypnosis look forward to
repeating the experience often because it is so pleasant and
refreshing. It has been said that 20 minutes in hypnosis is equal to a
refreshing 2 hour nap!
Q: What is an accelerator and why is it important?
A: An accelerator
is an activity designed to facilitate the transformation process more effectively & efficiently. Some of the
world's most successful and creative people have used accelerators with hypnosis.
If you watch the movie The Secret, you can see examples of how accelerators
were utilized in the attainment of success and abundance.
Some examples of accelerators are positive
affirmations used in conjunction with self-hypnosis (including the use of Mala beads) or listening to a customized hypnosis CD daily. Accelerators are
important because they work at effecting change at the
subconscious level.
Q.What is the best way to communicate with the subconscious
mind?
A. The language of the subconscious mind is in pictures and metaphors and
it responds to repetition and suggestion. During hypnosis, the subconscious
is responsive to affirmative suggestions.
The subconscious is also the seat of emotion and a good way to know the quality of your thoughts is by observing your emotions. If you are upbeat and happy then your thoughts are also primarily positive as well. Whatever you think in your mind will be manifested in your body as well.
Q: What
are some of the most common myths about hypnosis?
A: Some Common Myths about Hypnosis
are:
1) You can get stuck in hypnosis, 2) Strong-minded people cannot be easily hypnotized, 3) You may say something you
don't want others to know about, 4) the Hypnotist can "brainwash" you and 5) You lose consciousness while "under
hypnosis".
The truth is that
you will not divulge secrets because hypnosis is not a truth serum. You
cannot be controlled or overpowered to do things you wouldn't do under normal circumstances because you will not do anything
that is against your own moral code, even in hypnosis.
You do not lose
consciousness while "in hypnosis". We do not put people "under
hypnosis". If hypnosis were brainwashing, it would be 100% effective.
Brainwashing would require total entrenchment with deprivation.
Although some people hold the belief that strong-minded people cannot
be easily hypnotized, we know that the opposite is true, that the more
intelligent & creative the person, the easier it is to experience
hypnosis.
Q: How long is a typical session?
A:
A typical session is
usually between 60 to 90 minutes in duration, but it doesn't have to be. The initial appointment
takes a little longer due to paperwork and interview. Plan 2 hours for your first appointment.
Successful hypnotherapy sessions are not measured in terms of how much
time they require. Different processes take different amounts of time
and differs from client to client. This is one reason we bill by the
session, rather than by the hour.
We feel that keeping track of billing
time is not as important as being free to be fully present while
working with a client. Clients are also free from contemplating
additional financial concerns that billing hourly may bring up while
working through their process. If this were a concern for a client, it
may cause him/her to leave prematurely and feeling incomplete. We do
not want anyone to leave feeling incomplete so we bill by the session.
